A
When other nine-year-old kids were playing games, she was working at a petrol station. When other teens were studying or going out, she struggled to fred a place to sleep on the street. But she overcame these terrible setbacks to win a highly competitive scholarship (奖学金) and gain entry to Harvard University. And her amazing story has inspired a movie, "Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story", shown in late April.
Liz Murray, a 22,year-old American girl, has been writing a real-life story of willpower and determination. Liz grew up in the shadow of two drug-addicted parents. There was never enough food or warm clothes in the house. Liz was the only member of the family who had a job. Her mother had AIDS and died when Liz was just 15 years old. The effect of that loss became a turning point in her life. Connecting the environment in which she had grown up with how her mother had died, she decided to do something about it.
Liz went back to school. She threw herseff into her studies, never telling her teachers that she was homeless. At night, she lived on the streets. "What drove me to live on had something to do with understanding, by understanding that there was a whole other way of being. I had only. experienced a small part of the society." She wrote in her book Breaking Night.
She admitted that she used envy to drive herself on. She used the benefits that come easily to others, such as a safe riving environment, to encourage herself that "next to nothing could hold me down". She finished high school in just two years and won a full scholarship to study at Harvard University. But Liz decided to leave her top university a couple of months earlier this year in order to take care of her father, who has also developed AIDS. "I love my parents so much. They are drag addicts. But I never forget that they love me all the time."
Liz wants moviegoers to come away with the idea that changing your life is "as simple as making a decision".

Healthy Habits, Healthy Body
Feel tired lately? Has a doctor said he can't find anything wrong with you? Perhaps he sent you to a hospital, but all the advanced equipment there shows that there is nothing wrong with you.
Then, consider this: you might be in a state of subhealth (亚健康). Subhealth, also called the third state or gray state, is explained as a borderline state between health and disease.
According to the investigation by the National Health Organization, over 45 percent of subhealthy people are middle-aged or elderly. The percentage is even higher among people who work in management positions as well as students around exam-week.
Symptoms(征兆)include a lack of energy, depression(压抑), slow reactions, insomnia(失眠), agitation, and poor memory. Other symptoms include shortness of breath, sweating and aching in the waist and legs.
The key to preventing and recovering from subhealth, according to some medical experts, is to form good living habits, alternate work and rest, exercise regularly, and take part in open air activities.
As for meals, people are advised to ear less salt and sugar. They should also eat more fresh vegetables, fruits, fish because they are rich in nutritional elements...vitamins and trace elements...that are important to the body.
Nutrition experts point "out that it is not good to eat too much at one meal because it may cause unhealthy changes in the digestive tract(消化系统). They also say that a balanced diet is very helpful in avoiding subhealth.

C. When you are in a state of subhealth, you shouM have yourself examined in foreign countries.
D. When you are in a state of subhealth, you should find out the reasons and relax yourself.
46. Middle-aged people may be easy to get subhealth because
A. they have used up their energy B. they have lost their living hopes
C. they have more pressure in life and work D. they begin to get older
47. The key to preventing you from falling into a state of subhealth is that you should
